In his debut extended play FOSTERED CHILD EP Chicago born singer-songwriter Derrius Quarles explores his experiences of surviving 14 years of foster care throughout the Chicagoland area spanning four foster homes, a youth shelter, homelessness, and living in an apartment on his own starting at the age of 16. The title of the album acts as an opportunity to reclaim the stigmatization often attached to being described or describing oneself as a “foster child”.

Artist Bio:
The grandson of a Blues-loving Mississippi native and U.S. military Veteran – Derrius Okiro Quarles (born August 1990) is an award-winning songwriter, recording artist, entrepreneur, human rights activist, and author from the South Side of Chicago.

Intentionally blending African and Black art forms in modern ways, his music pays homage to the foundations of Soul and Hip-Hop including Gospel, Blues, House, Jazz, Folk, Spoken Word, and AfroBeat.

In 2019, Derrius linked up with Morehouse College classmates Ervin Mitchell and Shan Cypha to talk through his vision for music. They encouraged his dreams without question.

Before introducing his musical genius to the world, Derrius was most widely recognized for his tremendous contributions to the fields of education, marketing, and finance as the Co-Founder and former CEO of the companies Million Dollar Scholar and BREAUX Capital and the Founder and Lead Designer of DQ and Partners. The companies founded by Derrius have collectively generated over $30 million dollars in economic value.
